It is a good quality variety and indicated for the production of both still and Port wine. This variety produces well-structured wines with fresh and complex floral aromas. Normally, they are also alcoholic and are able to stay in the bottle for a few years.
Rabigato
The wine made from this variety is most commonly used to produce blended wines. The main qualities of Rabigato variety wines are the high alcohol content, good longevity and high acidity. Wines that include this variety in its composition have discreet aromas, with floral, vegetable and even mineral notes.
Gouveio
Wines made from the Gouveia variety have an excellent balance between acidity and sugar, are characterized for their high alcohol content, good structure and intense aromas.
Alvarinho
Alvarinho is one of the most remarkable Portuguese white grape varieties. It is a very old variety which produces fairly aromatic wines reaching a high alcohol level but maintaining a very balanced acidity.
Arinto
This variety is often used in the production of both blended wine (more than one variety) and sparkling wine. In the Portuguese region of Bucelas, monovarietal wines (one variety only) are produced presenting high acidity, citrus color and being pronouncedly floral and fruity (while young).
Loureiro
The Loureiro variety produces high acidity wines, with very strong floral and fruity aromas. While producing monovarietal wines (single grape variety), it is often used in blended wines (mixture of several grape varieties) where is usually combined with Trajadura and Arinto varieties.
Trajadura
Trajadura is originally from the Vinhos Verdes region. Wines produced with this grape variety do not have intense aromas. Trajadura is usually blended with Loureiro or sometimes with Alvarinho (grape varieties from the same region but more aromatic) in order to endow the wines with a higher alcohol content and better balance.
